WHY IT WORKS
The two jackets are visually very different, which is exactly why the layering works.
The embroidered denim is intricate and decorative; the pinstripe jacket underneath is cleaner, sportier and more utilitarian. The hood and glimpses of stripe give the top layer contrast without competing with the embroidery.
Keeping the shorts cream extends the light palette downward and gives all of that texture some breathing room.
Then the brown woven shoes ground the look without making it feel overly styled. They’re practical enough for a day spent walking around San Francisco, but interesting enough to belong with everything happening above them.
